MAYHT, a UNIIQ company, sold to Sonos for $ 100 million

UNIIQ, the early phase funder, believed in MAYHT when others did not. “When the brothers came by, it felt like you could almost see the duct tape still on the prototype. MAYHT, the TU Delft spin-off, was taken over by Sonos for $ 100 million. In general, UNIIQ companies do extremely well with 96% still operating and up to now more than € 125 million of follow-up financing acquired.

MAYHT BV is a TU Delft spin-off that was set up by brothers Timothy and Mattias Scheek. TU Delft is also one of the founding partners of the UNIIQ proof-of-concept fund. The brothers became interested in the development of loudspeakers when they were seven years old. While studying, they started the Scheek loudspeaker company in 2013 in which they targeted the high-end audio market with design loudspeakers. They have worked under the name MAYHT on developing technology for improved sound quality since 2016.

Revolutionary loudspeaker technology

Over the years audio equipment has become ever smaller and more compact, while the motor in the loudspeaker has hardly changed during that time. MAYHT works on designing revolutionary loudspeaker technology that is making loudspeakers several times more compact, powerful and can be produced more cheaply than conventional speakers. Thanks to new technology, MAYHT can place powerful drivers in a smaller housing while keeping the sound quality.

UNIIQ proves that you can invest very successfully in this phase

UNIIQ was founded in 2016 to bridge the most risky phase between concept to promising company (from TRL-3). UNIIQ invests a lot in deep tech propositions – about 80% of its portfolio almost always includes a hardware component – and in life sciences. These involve risky, high technology investments, often involving lengthy return on investment times, which the market does not dare enter. UNIIQ proves that you can invest successfully in this risky phase.
