Archimedes Drive: a mechanical transmission (gearbox) for industrial robots based on friction instead of gears
Gearboxes are used to provide the right amount of power to applications that are driven by an electrical motor. IMSystems is among the first to have succeeded in applying the principle of friction effectively in a compact, lightweight gearbox. The Archimedes Drive is therefore an ideal solution that can be applied in many sectors, including the robotised manufacturing industry.
Industrial robots used in this industry are highly dependent on the quality of gear transmission during movements. Although robots are becoming increasingly smarter as a result of fast-paced software developments, today’s gearboxes still cannot offer robots the right amount of precision and power. The Archimedes Drive achieves the same power transmission in a smaller and lighter format than current transmissions. And because of the lack of backlash in the gears, robots can perform their tasks more accurately.
